Working Structure Fire
October 15, 2008

County dispatched box 54-1 around 05:30 hrs for a reported working structure fire. Chief 54(Shellenhamer) went enroute and county advised callers reporting the second floor of a 2 1/2 story house well involved. Chief 54 had county add 2nd alarm tankers to the call due to this area of the township having no hydrants. Chief 54 arrived and advised a working fire. Engines 88 and 54-1 arrived and began a defensive attack on the fire due to large amounts of fire through out the structure. Units knocked down the fire with attack lines from the units on the scene and later discovered 2 occupants that did not make it out of the structure. PSP state police have determined the cause of the fire to be unattended cooking.

Another Structure Fire
October 24, 2008

County dispatched box 54-2 around 9:30 for reported smoke coming from the roof at the intersections of Colebrook and Steinruck roads. Chief 54 Shellenhamer went enroute and county reported the caller went back and advised flames showing from the structure. Chief 54 had county fill out the 1st alarm. Engine 88 went enroute from a call in their first due. Hearing E-88 already enroute the 54 crew took the engine-tanker first out from the station. Chief 54 arrived reporting a working fire in a 2.5 story residence. E-88 arrived and pulled a line and went inside to the first floor. Tanker 54 arrived and established a water supply for the engine and the crew pulled the second line from 88 and went to the second floor. Truck 88 arrived and set up to vertical vent. E-54 went to the hydrant at Steinruck and Bally Shannon for the fill site. Crews did an excellent job and worked well together for the second time this week.

Accident with an Extrication
October 24, 2008

County dispatched box 54-3 for a reported accident with injuries at the intersection of Route 230 and Deodate road. Engine 54(Deputy Chief Nissley) went enroute and county advised of 1 patient with a possible broken arm. Engine 54 arrived to find the crash on N. Deodate Road and Garden Ave. with a S-10 pickup into a tree. Engine crew cribbed the vehicle and assisted EMS with extricating the Patient. Chief 1 placed the box in service.

Chicken BBQ with 4 Calls
October 25, 2008

Today the company started the day by getting the grills fired up for the chicken BBQ at around 4am. While members were packaging the meals, county dispatched the 54-7 box at 10:15 for a crash at the intersections of Hertzler and route 230. Engine 54(Deputy Chief Nissley) went enroute and county sent the info. to the engines computer reporting a 3 car crash with injuries involving 3 vehicles. Engine 54 arrived and cribbed the vehicle that had 1 patient inside. Engine 54-1(Lieutenant 1 Smith) arrived and secured the 2 other vehicles involved. Engine 54's crew assisted EMS with removing the patient from the vehicle. While operating at the scene, county dispatched the 76-1 box for a crash on the PA Turnpike. Command sent E-1 to this incident. Engine 54-1 arrived to find one vehicle against the Jersey Barrier on the High Speed lane of the Pike West bound with 2 Patients. Engine 54-1's crew assisted EMS with removing the patients and cleared the call.

Later in the day at 13:44hrs, Engine 54 was dispatched on the 88-3 box in Middletown for a reported structure fire with flames coming from the window at a 2 story apartment building. Chief 88(Whealand) went on the scene with a working fire in a bedroom. Engine 54 arrived and sent their crew to manpower staging. Command 88 held the assignment to the 88 units and placed the remainder in service.

Then at 15:04 Utility 54 and Company 54 Fire Police were dispatched to assist the Elizabethtown FD in Lancaster County with traffic control at a fatal car crash on 743. Utility 54 and the Fire Police operated until around 21:00hrs.
