ABC East Fire Assist
April 4

Just after noon county dispatched Tanker 54 to assist Co. 49 Swatara Twp. with a second alarm structure fire at ABC East bowling alley. Tanker 54 (LT. Naples) arrived as the first due tanker and dropped their port-a-tank and a load of water. Eight more tankers were dispatched to assist with a tanker shuttle to supplement the hydrants that were being taxed to supply numerous master streams in operation. Tanker 54 operated for about 6 hours. Tanker 54 dropped 13 loads (42,900 gallons) of water. THANK YOU to LebCo Tanker 2 (Campbelltown) for transferring to our station!

Assist on Fire in Hershey
April 11

This morning at 0841 hours Tanker 54 was dispatched on Box 81-1, Conewago Place Rehab Center, to assist Station 48 on an automatic fire alarm. While enroute, County advised they received a call from the premis saying they had smoke in the kitchen. The alarm was upgraded and Engine 48-1 arrived to find a working fire in the kitchen floor joists which extended up the kitchen walls and into the common loft. Tanker 54 (Captain Dupler) arrived and set up on side A of the structure to supply Engine 48-1 with water. The tanker crew secured the buildings electric and then went to work in the basement where fire had spread into an electrical room. Due to a lack of manpower and water, Command called for a second alarm 0908 which brought Engine 54 and numerous other mutual aid companies to the scene. The fire was marked under control at 0957 and the Tanker and Engine remained on scene for just under 3 hours assisting with extinguishment and overhaul.

Multiple Calls Today
April 20

Today was a busy day for Company 54. The first call @ 05:30 was for Fire police to assist Derry Township police with shutting down a road way due to a Fatal accident in Company 48's (Hershey) district.

The second call was dispatched around 13:00 for Engine 54-1 to assist LanCo Company 7-1 (Bainbridge) with a pick-up truck fire that had started multiple brush fires.

The third call was dispatched around 15:00 for a vehicle fire on the Route 283 East bound off ramp @ Tollhouse road. Engine 54 (Chief 54-2 Kleinfelter) arrived and reported a working pick-up truck fire. E-54, Utility 54 and Chief 54-1 in the Duty Vehicle operated at this call. Photo's by Brian Glasmire.


As crews were just finishing up re-packing the Trash Line on E-54 county dispatched E-54 around 16:30 on 283 West bound 1 mile prior to Toll House road for a vehicle fire. E-54 (Chief 54-2 Kleinfelter) arrived again with a working fire in a a small passenger car. E-54, 54-1 and the Tanker operated at this call. Photo's by Brain Glasmire.


Then as members were working the weekly Friday night Bingo county dispatched Box 54-9 around 20:00 at Hill Island on the Susquehanna river for a reported structure fire. Boats 54 and 88 arrived on the Island to find a large bon fire and placed the box in service.


Assist to Middletown Reservoir
April 21

County dispatched company 54 to assist EMS at the Middletown reservoir to help extricate a large man with a fractured leg located back a walking trail next to a creek. Utility 54 arrived and backed down a small road that is used to access the reservoir. Personnel had to carry the individual in a stokes basket over rough terrain to the waiting Utility. We removed some equipment off of the rear roll out tray that is capable of holding 3000lbs and placed the patient in the stokes on the tray and drove him out to the ambulance that was waiting on the hard road. Patient was transferred from the tray on to the litter in the ambulance and the box was placed in service.

Structure Fire in Middletown
April 23

County dispatched Engine 54 to Middletown Borough to assist on a reported structure fire around 05:27. Chief 88 arrived and upgraded to a working fire assignment and then to a second alarm. Engine 54 (Captain Kandrac) was assigned accountability and the crew went to the second floor to assist interior crews.

Structure Fire in Cedar Manor
April 24

At 14:41 County dispatched box 54-7, 284 Michael street in Cedar Manor trailer Court for a reported structure fire with entrapment. Engine 54 ( Captain 1 Dupler) went en route and county advised that there was a person in a wheel chair possibly still inside. Captain 1 upgraded the box to working fire assignment. Engine 54 and LanCo E-7-4-2 arrived and confirmed a working fire. Truck 88 did a search and advised nothing found. A neighbor reported the home owner was at his house. Crews made a quick knock on the fire and command marked control. Units were on scene for about 5 hours assisting PSP Fire Marshal.

Head on Collision at Colebrook and Steinruck
April 29

County dispatched Box 54-2 @ 02:12 For an Accident with Entrapment at Colebrook and Steinruck Roads. Chief 54-2 (Kleinfelter) went en route and county advised of a head on collision with possibly 6 patients with 1 entrapped. Engine 54 ( Chief Shellenhamer) and Chief 2 arrived. Chief 2 established command and Chief 54 assumed extrication. Eng crew started Pt care, stabilized the vehicle and started to make the cuts on the roof of the passenger side of the vehicle. Eng 54-1 (Captain Kandrac) arrived and set up lighting at the vehicle and assisted with Pt care. Rescue 88 arrived and started the cuts on the drivers side of the roof. Utility 54 arrived with 3 firefighters and blocked traffic for the Fire Police and reported to the command post. Extrication was marked at 02:48. Crews pick-up and after washing down the road way command placed the box in service. Good job by all!
